Khalil Gibran was a writer, painter, and philosopher who is best known for his book The Prophet. Born in Lebanon in 1883, Gibran was raised in a Maronite Christian family. He emigrated to the United States in 1895, and eventually settled in Boston. There he attended art school and developed his passion for writing. In 1912, he returned to Lebanon and began working on The Prophet, a collection of 26 prose poems that explore such themes as love, marriage, work, and death. The book was published in 1923 and quickly became an international bestseller. In addition to writing poetry and prose, Gibran was also an accomplished painter, and his work often reflected his deep spiritual beliefs. Gibran died of leukemia in 1931 at the age of 48. Today, Gibran is considered one of the most significant writers of the 20th century, and his work continues to inspire readers around the world.
