Oscar Wilde was one of the most celebrated writers of the late 19th century. Born in Ireland in 1854, he moved to London in 1878 and quickly established himself as a leading lights of the city's literary scene. In 1895, Wilde was convicted of gross indecency and sentenced to two years in prison.
